Living right-side up in an upside-down world

The world tells us to aim for power, wealth and popularity but Jesus calls us to live in a way that turns all the worlds beliefs upside down. In the book of Luke we see a radical message:
"Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
"The last will be the first, and the first will be last"
"Whoever humbles himself will be exalted."
The verses above reveal a belief system that goes against the world challenging us to embrace humility, selflessness and faith instead of power, pride and materialism
Together we'll explore what it means to follow Jesus's countercultural path choosing humility, love and service over pride greed and self-interest

Lessons from the book of Luke

The Good Samaritan

View Luke 10:25
This parable challenges societal expectations by showing a Samaritan acting as a hero while the priest and Levite respected religious figures fail to help.

The woman who anoints Jesus

View Luke 7:36-50
A sinful woman anoints Jesus's feet and though others judge her Jesus forgives her sins because of her faith.

The tax collector: Zacchaeus

View Luke 19:1-10
A hated tax collector repents after meeting Jesus and promises to give away his wealth and repay those he wronged.

Jesus and the poor widow

View Luke 21:1-4
Jesus praises a poor woman who gives two coins, highlighting that her small gift is greater than the large sums of the wealthy because she gave all she had.

In the Gospel of Luke, we see a powerful narrative of how Jesus challenges the norms and values of the world. Through parables, teachings, and real-life encounters, He demonstrates that God's kingdom operates on principles that often seem upside down to human understanding. The stories of the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, and Zacchaeus remind us that mercy, humility, and repentance hold greater value than worldly status or riches. As Christians , we are called to embrace this countercultural way of living putting others before ourselves, valuing compassion over competition, and seeking God’s purpose above all else. These lessons remind us that true fulfillment is found not in following the world, but in following Christ.
